Sweet Bonanza vs Gates of Olympus: Which Should You Play?

Sweet Bonanza and Gates of Olympus are Pragmatic Play’s two most famous pay-anywhere slots. They share the same 6×5 engine and tumble feature, so players often mix them up — in some countries Gates of Olympus even has its own nickname. The differences lie in how multipliers work, and they change the feel of the game a lot.

How the multipliers differ

In Sweet Bonanza, multiplier bombs only appear in free spins. Their values are added together at the end of each tumble sequence and multiply that sequence’s win; the next spin starts from zero.

In Gates of Olympus, multiplier orbs can land in the base game too, and during free spins every multiplier that contributes to a win is added to a total multiplier that keeps growing for the rest of the round. That creates the famous late-round explosions — and also many rounds where the multiplier grows but wins never land.

Which feels better?

  • Sweet Bonanza feels lighter and more playful. Wins are frequent but small in the base game, and the bonus has a higher theoretical ceiling.
  • Gates of Olympus feels more intense. Base-game multipliers create surprise wins, and the accumulating multiplier makes free spins dramatic. Its own rules label it medium volatility, one step above Sweet Bonanza’s low.

Which should you choose?

If you are new to pay-anywhere slots, start with Sweet Bonanza: its rules are easier and its multipliers more predictable. If you know Sweet Bonanza well and want stronger swings, try Gates of Olympus in demo mode first. Neither game gives better long-term odds; the default RTPs are very close.
