The grid and the “pay anywhere” rule
The game uses 6 reels and 5 rows — 30 symbol positions in total. There are no paylines. After every spin the game counts each symbol type on the whole grid. If a symbol appears 8 or more times, it wins, wherever those symbols are. Their positions do not matter: they do not need to touch or line up.
Payouts depend on how many copies you land: 8–9, 10–11, or 12 or more. Several symbol types can win on the same spin, and their wins are added together. All prizes are paid as a multiple of your total bet, not of a line bet.
The tumble feature
When a win is paid, the winning symbols disappear. The symbols above them drop down, and new symbols fall into the empty spaces from the top of the screen. If the new arrangement forms another winning group, it pays as well, and the process repeats. This chain is called a tumble sequence and it continues until no new win appears. All wins of one sequence are added together.
Tumbles are why a single spin can produce several wins and why low-paying fruit still matters: each small cluster that disappears gives new symbols a chance to land.

The symbols
| Symbol | 8–9 | 10–11 | 12+ |
|---|---|---|---|
| Red heart candy | 10× | 25× | 50× |
| Purple square candy | 2.5× | 10× | 25× |
| Green pentagon candy | 2× | 5× | 15× |
| Blue oval candy | 1.5× | 2× | 12× |
| Apple | 1× | 1.5× | 10× |
| Plum | 0.8× | 1.2× | 8× |
| Watermelon | 0.5× | 1× | 5× |
| Grapes | 0.4× | 0.9× | 4× |
| Banana | 0.25× | 0.75× | 2× |
| Lollipop scatter | 4: 3× | 5: 5× | 6: 100× |
The four candies are the premium symbols, led by the red heart. The five fruits — apple, plum, watermelon, grapes and banana — pay less but appear more often. The lollipop is the scatter. It does not need to form a group of 8: four or more anywhere on the grid trigger free spins and pay an instant prize of 3×, 5× or 100× the bet for 4, 5 or 6 scatters.
Setting your bet
Use the + and − buttons, or the stake menu, to choose the total bet per spin. The smallest stake is usually around 0.20 in your currency; the largest depends on the casino and on local rules. In Great Britain online slot stakes are capped at £5 per spin for adults over 25 and at £2 for players aged 18–24, and in Germany special stake limits apply as well.
Your stake should match your budget, not your hopes. A useful rule is to choose a bet that allows at least 200 spins with your session budget, because the bonus round can take that long to appear. The budget calculator below shows the numbers for your own stake.
Your first spin, step by step
- Open the game and close the intro screen.
- Read the information menu (the i button): it shows the paytable, the rules and the RTP of this version.
- Choose a small stake.
- Decide whether to use Ante Bet. For learning, keep it off.
- Press spin. Watch the grid: winning groups flash, explode and are replaced.
- Check the win counter after the tumble sequence ends — that is your total win for the spin.
- Avoid autoplay while you are learning; in some countries it is not available at all.
Free spins: the bonus round
Four or more lollipop scatters trigger 10 free spins. They are played at the same stake that triggered them. During free spins, rainbow multiplier bombs can land with values from 2× to 100×. At the end of each tumble sequence, the values of all bombs on the grid are added together and multiply the total win of that sequence. If no win formed, the bombs do nothing.
Three or more scatters during free spins award 5 extra spins. The feature can be retriggered several times. The round ends when all free spins are used or when the total win reaches the maximum of 21,100× the bet. The detailed guide to the bonus is on our bonus features page.
Optional features: Ante Bet and Buy Free Spins
Ante Bet (sometimes labelled “Double chance to win feature”) increases the stake by 25% and doubles the chance to trigger free spins. While it is on, buying the bonus is disabled. Buy Free Spins lets you pay 100× the bet to start the bonus immediately. Not every casino or country offers it; it is not available in the UK or in Germany.
Rules that confuse new players
- Wins are not lines. Eight bananas spread across all corners pay the same as eight bananas in a cluster.
- Bombs are free-spins only. In the original game they never appear in the base game.
- Bombs add, then multiply. Three bombs of 2×, 5× and 10× make 17×, not 100×.
- The maximum win stops the round. At 21,100× the bet, the game pays and ends the feature.
- Malfunction voids all pays. This standard rule in every slot means a technical error cancels the affected round.

Frequently asked questions
How many symbols do you need to win in Sweet Bonanza?
At least 8 identical symbols anywhere on the grid. More symbols pay more: the paytable has steps at 8–9, 10–11 and 12 or more.
Does Sweet Bonanza have paylines?
No. It uses a pay anywhere system on a 6×5 grid, so symbol positions do not matter.
What is the highest-paying symbol?
The red heart candy. Twelve or more hearts pay 50× the total bet in the standard version.
Do multiplier bombs appear in the base game?
Not in the original Sweet Bonanza. They appear only during free spins.
Can I retrigger free spins?
Yes. Three or more lollipop scatters during the feature add 5 more free spins.
