Sweet Bonanza Slot Review 2026

Sweet Bonanza is a candy slot by Pragmatic Play — labelled low volatility in its own rules — with a 6×5 grid, “pay anywhere” wins, tumbling symbols and free spins where rainbow multiplier bombs can reach 100×. This guide explains every rule and number in plain words, so you can try it in the free demo and decide for yourself.

What is Sweet Bonanza?

Sweet Bonanza is an online video slot released by Pragmatic Play in 2019 and still one of the most played slots in the world. It replaces classic paylines with a pay anywhere system: you win when 8 or more identical symbols land anywhere on the 6-reel, 5-row grid. Winning symbols then explode and new ones fall from above, which can chain several wins from a single spin. The real excitement is the free spins round, where colourful multiplier bombs add up and multiply the whole win.

The theme is a cartoon candy land: a pastel sky, cotton-candy clouds, glossy sweets and fruit. Its own rules label the maths low volatility: small wins come often. Many review sites call it high-volatility instead, because the largest wins depend on rare bonus rounds with multiplier bombs. Both observations are true at once, and understanding them is the most useful thing you can take from this review.

Sweet Bonanza at a glance: our verdict

Sweet Bonanza is a good choice if you enjoy fast, colourful games and accept that the outcome swings a lot. The free spins round with stacking multiplier bombs is genuinely exciting and is where the 21,100× maximum win becomes possible. The downside: a typical session can end without a bonus at all, and the base game alone rarely returns your stake. Try the demo first, set a firm budget, and treat any real-money play as paid entertainment.

  • Best for: players who like big-swing slots and short, lively sessions.
  • Strong points: simple rules, pay-anywhere wins, tumbling chains, bombs up to 100×, a high maximum win.
  • Weak points: bonus rounds can take hundreds of spins to trigger, big wins depend on the bonus, some casinos use reduced-RTP versions.
  • Our advice: learn the game in the free demo, check the RTP version in the game info, and play only at licensed casinos in the US.
Free play money, no sign-up. The demo loads from the provider’s server only after you click.

How Sweet Bonanza works in 60 seconds

Each spin fills a grid of 30 positions. If at least 8 copies of the same symbol appear anywhere, they pay according to the paytable and disappear. The empty spaces are filled by new symbols falling from above — this is the Tumble feature — and the game checks again for new wins. The chain continues until no new winning cluster forms. Then the next spin starts.

Four or more lollipop scatters anywhere on the screen trigger 10 free spins and pay an instant prize. During free spins, rainbow multiplier bombs can land with values from 2× to 100×. When a tumble sequence ends, all bombs on the screen are added together and the total multiplies the win of that sequence. Landing three or more scatters during the feature adds extra free spins.

Two optional switches change the maths: Ante Bet raises your stake by 25% and roughly doubles the chance of triggering free spins, and Buy Free Spins lets you buy the round for 100× your bet where it is allowed. Both are explained in our bonus features guide.

The symbols and what they pay

Sweet Bonanza has nine regular symbols. Four candies are the high-paying symbols, and five fruits are the low-paying ones. The red heart candy is the top symbol: 12 or more hearts pay 50× your total bet. Fruits pay much less, but they land more often and feed the tumble chains that keep a spin alive.

Payouts as a multiple of your total bet, from the game’s paytable. Values can differ in reduced-RTP versions.

Banana0.25×0.75×2×
Lollipop scatter4: 3×5: 5×6: 100×

Notice how payouts jump between the three ranges. Eight or nine bananas return only a quarter of your stake, while twelve hearts return fifty times it. In practice most base-game wins come from small fruit clusters, which is why the base game alone usually returns less than you bet. The numbers above are the standard version; casinos that run a reduced-RTP version may show different values in the game’s paytable.

Free spins and multiplier bombs

The bonus round is the heart of Sweet Bonanza. You need 4 lollipop scatters at once to trigger it. The scatters also pay on their own: 3× your bet for 4, 5× for 5 and 100× for 6. You receive 10 free spins, played at the same stake that triggered them.

During free spins a new symbol appears: the rainbow bomb. Each bomb carries a multiplier between 2× and 100×. Bombs stay on the grid until the tumble sequence finishes. At that moment all bomb values are added together — for example 5× + 10× + 25× = 40× — and the total multiplies the combined win of that sequence. If no win formed in that sequence, the bombs pay nothing. This is why a free spins round can be worth a few times your bet or several hundred times it.

Three or more scatters during the feature award 5 extra spins, and the round can be retriggered more than once. Read the full breakdown with examples in our guide to free spins, Ante Bet and Bonus Buy.

RTP, volatility and the maximum win

The default RTP (return to player) of Sweet Bonanza is about 96.48%. RTP is a long-term average over millions of spins: it does not predict a single session. Pragmatic Play also offers casinos lower-RTP configurations, so the same game can return less at one site than at another. You can see the active value in the game’s information panel before you play.

The game’s own rules label its volatility as low. Wins in the base game are frequent but small; large wins depend on the bonus round and on multiplier bombs. The maximum win is capped at 21,100× the bet — once a round reaches that amount, it ends and pays the capped prize. We explain what these numbers mean for your budget — and why many sites rate the volatility higher — in RTP, volatility and max win.

Ante Bet and Bonus Buy

Ante Bet is a toggle on the left of the game screen. It adds 25% to every spin and, in exchange, makes free spins about twice as likely to trigger. It does not increase the size of wins. Over a long session it changes how often you see the bonus, not the long-term return.

Buy Free Spins lets you pay 100× your bet to start the bonus immediately. It is popular because it skips the wait, but it is also the fastest way to spend a budget: one purchase at a $1 stake costs 100 times that amount, and the round can return less than its price. Bonus Buy is not offered in some countries, including the UK and Germany.

Sweet Bonanza versions

The success of the original led Pragmatic Play to release a whole family of games. Sweet Bonanza 1000 raises bomb multipliers up to 1,000× and the maximum win to 25,000×. Sweet Bonanza Xmas keeps the original rules with a Christmas theme. Super Scatter adds a special scatter symbol with instant prizes. CandyLand is not a slot at all but a live game show with a presenter and a money wheel. Sweet Rush Bonanza, released in September 2025, mixes Sweet Bonanza with Sugar Rush-style multiplier spots.
